The most common causes of connection errors
If your Ring device has trouble connecting, the Ring app will display an error and provide a code to help you resolve the issue. Here are a few of the main causes of poor connections:
Your Ring device might be too far from your WiFi router
Your mobile device has a weak signal or poor connection
Your home Wi-Fi connection is poor (or your Internet service provider has high traffic)
Bad connection prompt
Check the signal strength of your ring device.
If your Ring device is located further from your WiFi router, you may experience connection issues.
Open the ring app.
Click on the menu .
Click on the device.
Select the ring device you want to test.
Click the Device Health tile.
Scroll to Signal Strength under the Network section.
Green, Amber, Red indicates your device is connected. Green is good, red is bad. Learn more about WiFi signal strength.
Move your WiFi router off the floor.
Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere with or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose a high, central, open location for your WiFi router.
Check your mobile device's signal.
If your mobile device has a bar or two, this may cause problems accessing your Ring device. For best results, make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi wherever you are.
How to check your wifi speed.
Most Internet service providers offer download speeds of 100-400 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of 10-100 Mbps. We recommend using a website like this to test your internet connection at a distance of 4 meters from your WiFi router.
If your WiFi speed is below the above range, we recommend contacting your internet service provider.
Change the phone number on your Ring account
If you recently changed your phone number, you can update the number associated with your Ring account from the Ring app's Control Center or Ring.com.
Receive verification codes via different phone numbers when logging in.
To change your phone number in the Ring app:
Click on the menu in the upper left corner
Click Control Center on the side menu
Under Account Control, click Account Management
Under "Personal," click "Update" next to your phone number
For your security, you may be asked to verify your account
Enter your new phone number and click Save
